Malaria Eradication

“Can mosquito-borne diseases like malaria and dengue be eradicated, given the public apathy to sanitation and cleanliness?”
The complete eradication of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria and dengue seems a distant dream at the moment. Without people’s support, even control of such diseases is impossible. Science and medicine can do a promising job in this endeavor. However, people’s heed to it is pre-requisite. These diseases are commonly associated with poverty- poor sanitary conditions. If proper spraying is done and stagnated water is drained out, we can reach some sort of ‘eradication’. We have some examples like United States and Southern Europe where elimination of mosquito has been a success. This is possible in India provided these steps are followed in letter and spirit.

Settlements in Space

“Is it worthwhile to plan for human settlements in space, to escape disasters on Earth in future?”

The present state of technology has pushed us into a spectrum of uncertainty where chaos and confusion is all around. Even the actors of this stage are not safe. There is a growing potential of risk for life on earth. The nuclear doomsday can wipe-out life once for all as world of today is in grave danger of nuclear war with international relations worsening day by day. The high risk of global warming and consequences there of is alarming. A genetically engineered virus can also be a reason for this unwelcome disaster. Under these circumstances, it becomes impossible to avoid disaster on planet earth in future. Therefore, it is important for human race to spread out in space. We should explore the ‘Home-Next’ and start its colonization

Considering the vastness of our country and its large population, are we using the potential of satellite television in education adequately?
Television is the most effective medium to disseminate information by incorporating both audio and visual technology. In educational field, satellite television has been an attractive force for enthusiastic learning in India. India started with Doordarshan, travelled through different educational television projects to step in, thereby nurturing its huge audience- primary, secondary and University level students. Besides, it could reach the remotest possible areas.
Unlike developed countries that are taking full advantage of satellite television in education, India should thrust more to take it to new heights. Already available stuff is not adequate enough to meet the growing needs. It should be focused at and new innovations brought in. It should be expanded and cuts should be made in subscriber fee so that a large proportion of population can avail it. Experts from Corporate and educational sectors should be invited in this endeavor so as to mingle their ideas to bring about a revolution in satellite television in education.
